Some dogs are anxious, nervous and lacking in confidence in our big, busy world. How do we identify these dogs? Often it’s the ones who bark, lunge or even dive away from other dogs and/or people. But, thanks to one amazing person, one of the best ways to identify these dogs is to check out what colour they are wearing!
If you see a dog wearing yellow then they are probably part of the My Anxious Dog Yellow Army! https://myanxiousdog.co.uk
My Anxious Dog was the brain child of Sarah Jones who, in 2012, created the group and movement to help raise awareness about dogs who need more space when out and about. Dogs can be anxious for a variety of reasons but Sarah’s dog Bella, became very anxious about life after she was attacked by another dog when she was only a puppy.
Sarah then designed and created a whole selection of items for dogs (and their humans!), in striking yellow, to help identify dogs like Bella.
Sarah has also created a national #dogsinyellow day and that day is 20th March.
So, if you see a dog (and/or their human) wearing yellow, please respect their need for space. Keep yourself and your dog at a respectful distance away from them. Let these anxious dogs have a chance to enjoy their walks, just like you do, with your own confident dog.
